August 2020

Atlantic Region Concours and Luncheon at

The Charming Curry Estate

Saturday, August 22, 2020

Noon to 4:00 PM

Reminder for those who have not yet RSVP'd.

No doubt it's been a long, troubled Spring and Summer. I thank Providence that no word's reached me of any of our members succumbing to COVID-19. Whether we've beaten the pandemic in the Tri-state area or are simply in the eye of the storm still is unclear, but we finally have the opportunity to gather together. Let's take full advantage of it.

We've found a wonderful location to hold our Concours -- the Curry Estate in Hopewell Junction, New York. Hopewell Junction is about 70 miles from NYC but seems a world away. Dutchess County restaurant regulations are more relaxed than NYC or New Jersey and there's no danger of protest-related traffic problems. It's an easy 80-minute summer drive through mountains and woodlands with minimal or no traffic. Directions will follow in a subsequent email.

The Curry Estate is a beautiful venue with expansive grounds and a lovely outdoor pavilion where we can dine safely. We'll enjoy a three course plated meal with an entree of steak or salmon all for the very reasonable cost of $60.00 per person. A cash bar will be available and the pavilion is within steps of a large gravel lot where we will be holding our Concours.

This year we will have a special category to honor our fellow club member, the late Howard Krimko: The “Howard Krimko Peoples Choice Award,” where club members will be able to vote for the ‘Best of Show.’ [Please don’t vote for your own PMC. Be gracious and honor the highest caliber of Sportsmanship!]

Official check-in and cocktails begin at noon but if you are bringing a PMC you wish to be judged we'd ask you to arrive by 11:30 AM. The event will officially run until 4:00 PM but you're encouraged to linger, enjoy the grounds and perhaps enjoy dinner on your own at Le Chambord, the Estate's award winning restaurant. There's a lovely Inn on the property should you wish to spend the night and make a weekend out of it.

YOU CAN PAY AT THE VENUE BUT YOU MUST RSVP ASAP TO SECURE YOUR SEATS AND INDICATE WHAT CAR YOU'RE BRINGING AND WHETHER YOU WISH IT JUDGED. Please RSVP by replying to this email. The event is limited to 36 attendees due to reduced seating capacity. Please bring cash or credit cards -- no checks this time. This is an entirely outdoor event unless it rains where we will move inside. (Indoor dining is permitted in Dutchess County). The pavilion is airy and has ceiling fans but dress for outdoor August weather. Tasteful shorts and casual footwear (no Daisy Dukes or muddy keds!) are perfectly acceptable. Headwear is a good idea. Masks are a must except while dining. We'll be following all mandates.

At the venue, Board meeting to follow where we will discuss plans for future events and activities. This event is something of a litmus test to see how we proceed in the immediate future. I hope to see as many of you as possible with your lovely Rolls and Bentley automobiles.

Special thanks to Charles Roy for his work on this event.

Joe Marley, Chairman
